Thank you for the walk down memory lane-from the old ELOX & Charmilles machines with dial settings thru the machines with the ON/OFF time tumblers, the tape readers (i.e. Makino & Sodick), and CNC controlled Makino EDNC family/Charmilles Roboform family). It’s amazing how technology has brought the metal erosion technology so far so fast.
EDM has traditionally had a low MRR machining compared to traditional machining methods. Today, high-speed milling has improved thru-put, additive machining has reduced the need for prototype molds and replaced the need for low volume production molds; but, as Jeff mentioned, EDM will have a place for the foreseeable future.
I’m proud to have been involved in this amazing technology.
